The Energy of Social Media
Ahhh, Social Media - as of late, we've sort of been having a love-hate relationship with it. We love it for making the world a smaller place and enabling us to connect with like-minded people from all corners the globe; however, we've also found it to be pretty toxic and draining of our energy. How many of you would agree?!
We both have begun questioning how much energy and time we're spending on our social media platforms. Now, more than ever before, there seems to be an energy epidemic whereby a lot of people are feeling quite insecure about their physical apperance or feeling inadequate about their lives. We read somewhere that Facebook is one of the primary reasons for divorce and high rates of depression today. Why is this so? Because many of us are constantly comparing our real lives with ‘manicured moments’ from the accounts of celebrities, bloggers and our friends. We're often baffled at the extent to which some 'influencers' will go to capture that picture perfect photo for the 'gram. We'll put our hands up and admit that we are guilty of doing the same. We have well and truly lost touch with just making the most of the moment.
On a personal level, our anxiety levels have increased and breathing deeply is something we have just taken for granted. What’s ironic is that we've had to download apps such as Calm and Rituals to help us slow down the pace on our fast and frantic lifestyles
Over the years, we have regained control by taking regular breaks from 'the matrix' through either deactivating Facebook, mamaging our followers and friends list, removing ourselves from dormant whatsapp groups or uninstalling apps. We have translated these changes from the digital realm to real life too, by reassessing our social circles. We have found this exercise to be useful and necessary for self-preservation of our respective energy
Recently we delved into the world of crystal healing to understand more about our chakras and how to unblock, cleanse and raise our vibrations. The idea of energy healing through the use of crystals, for example, is to align our chakras. When one or more chakras are either imbalanced or blocked, it manifests in physical form. An example of this is thyroid issues being linked with the throat chakra i.e. not being able to express or vocalise our thoughts. Constant migraines are said to be associated with the third eye being blocked. Using Himalayan Salt Lamps and burning sage can help with cleansing the negative vibrations in the air around us.
This year, we really felt our overall emotional and physical wellbeing was being compromised, and there are many reasons for this; but we identified Social Media as the biggest cause for us since we use it for our blog and for our online shop. Changing our diet, crystal healing and meditation were just a few measures we took to heal from within and protect our energy. We saw many of our fellow bloggers take a break from their platforms this year for the same reasons we have just outlined. There are many different types of alternative medicines to increase our holistic health and wellbeing, which are either mind-body based such as aromatherapy and meditation, to biologically based such as diet and nutrition or herbal medicines. We have conceptualised the 'Plague of Social Media' and how it can be linked to our energies being blocked through this image. May your 2019 be one of raised vibrations and optimum inner health.
